SWIFT
Verruca and Wart treatment
SWIFT is a pioneering treatment for verrucas and warts, utilising microwave technology to target the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) responsible for these stubborn lesions.
Unlike traditional methods, SWIFT is:
Non-invasive
Quick
Generally comfortable
Often results in a higher success rate compared to other treatment options.
It’s an ideal choice for those seeking efficient and lasting results.
SWIFT delivers low-dose microwave energy directly into the tissue. This energy heats the wart or verruca to a precise temperature, triggering an immune response. It not only treats the visible lesion but also encourages the body to combat the underlying virus, which often results in a higher success rate compared to more traditional treatments.

SWIFT treatment works by delivering low-dose microwave energy directly into the affected tissue. This energy heats the wart or verruca to a precise temperature, triggering an immune response that targets and fights the HPV virus. This approach not only treats the visible lesion but also encourages the body to combat the underlying virus, which often results in a higher success rate than other treatments.
Microwave energy has been safely used in medicine for many years, particularly in cancer treatment. The SWIFT system harnesses this technology in a controlled manner, making it a safe and effective option.

Quick and Convenient: Each SWIFT session usually lasts just a few minutes, and no anaesthetic is required, making it a convenient option for busy patients.
Minimal Discomfort: Patients might feel a slight warming sensation during the treatment, but it is generally well tolerated, with no need for recovery time.
High Success Rate: SWIFT has been shown to have a high success rate, with many patients noticing significant improvement after just one to three sessions.
No Post-Treatment Care Required: Unlike other treatments that may require ongoing care or the application of topical agents, SWIFT needs no post-treatment care, allowing patients to return to their normal activities straight away.
Reduced Risk of Scarring: SWIFT is noninvasive, so there is a lower risk of scarring compared to surgical or needling treatments.
-
SWIFT is suitable for most patients, including those who have not responded to other treatments such as cryotherapy, caustics, or needling. It is particularly beneficial for individuals seeking a non-invasive, quick, and effective solution for stubborn verrucas that have persisted despite other treatments.
However, certain patients, such as those with metal implants near the treatment area or those who are pregnant, may not be suitable candidates for SWIFT. We will assess your medical history and condition to determine if SWIFT is the best option for you.

The number of treatments varies depending on the size and duration of the verruca. On average, patients see significant improvement with three and a half sessions. For some people, the verruca will resolve more quickly that the suggested three treatments, for others additional treatments may be necessary.

SWIFT treatment is generally well tolerated. You may feel a slight warming sensation during the procedure, but it is brief and subsides quickly.
-
SWIFT treatment is designed to stimulate the body’s immune response, reducing the likelihood of recurrence. However, as with all treatments, there is no absolute guarantee, and some patients may require additional sessions.

At The Sheffield Wart & Verruca Clinic, every patient receives a personalised assessment and treatment plan. This 30 minute consultation is where we discuss your options, explain what to expect, and support you throughout your treatment journey.
SWIFT requires an average of 3-4 treatments. We offer a package of 3 treatments, which take place one month apart, with a review three months after the last treatment to decide whether further SWIFT treatment is needed. The immune response triggered by SWIFT treatment continues even after the treatment is complete, often leading to resolution over the following weeks.
